Lidcombe Program Option:

The Lidcombe Program for Early Intervention for Stuttering (LP) was developed by Professor Mark Onslow and his colleagues at the University of Sydney, Australian Stuttering Research Centre (ASRC), as a behavioural intervention for stuttering in preschool children.  In this program, parents learn to administer appropriate verbal contingencies about fluency and stuttering to their children in their everyday speaking environments.  Studies have shown that stuttering can be maintained at near zero following treatment.  This treatment has been adjusted for school-age children, special populations and distance treatment.

Parent comments:

“My daughter has changed from a stutterer to a fluent (non-stop) talker.  Her self-esteem and confidence were boosted by the daily praise and her realization that she could control her speech…. It’s an amazing transformation to witness, and in such a short time frame.  It takes patience and perseverance, but it’s well worth the effort.”

“My son is able to recognize “bumpy” words and “smooth” them out.”

“My son has greatly benefited from the LP.  He now has the ability to manage things and has great confidence in himself.”

“My child is almost at stutter-free speech.”

“Our family has greatly benefited from the LP.   We did this via “distance” and had no negative experiences - it was all positive.  I would recommend this program.”
